Tone Thiis Schjetne (1928 – 2015) Summer Wind, undatet.
Purchased in 1981 for Gallerifondet from Kunstnerforbundet.
The artist Tone Thiis Schjetne (1928 – 2015) was for many years a sculptor affiliated with Nidaros Cathedral Restoration Workshop.
First and foremost she is known for a sculpture that represents a marketplace woman, «Go’dagen» (1983), which for many years was placed at Trondheim Torg. Thiis Schjetne’s sculptures are both figurative and abstract, and they often have their point of departure in a movement or a direction, whereas unnecessary details have been left out.
Each of the two main figures of the sculpture Summer Wind hold on to one end of a large piece of fabric. Maybe they are folding clothes or laying out a blanket? It is an everyday scene, with no particular focus on the identity of these characters or the reason for their pursuits. On the contrary, the focus is on the invisible and mild summer wind. Even though the sculpture has been shaped in a hard and cold metal, one may still sense the warm breeze that takes hold of clothes and fabrics.
